— A continuous involvement in providing excellent creative and management support to the Abu Dhabi Art Fair.
HQWS’ scope for the Abu Dhabi Art Fair included design, construction, fit out and management of temporary pavilions, majlis and structures. As well as the VIP opening and special events. For each of the three editions, structure designs, materials and content was developed to reflect a specific theme.
In 2009 an abstract concept was adopted for the interior design of the ‘The Majlis’ – using a series of clean white partitions, each angled at 10 degrees and edged with mirrors, to create a false sense of perspective and define the various lounge, theatre and reception spaces within.
In 2010 designs reflecting an environmental theme and fresh green colour palette, interior designs and finishes embraced a variety of natural materials such as wood, slate, moss, grass and even ‘air plants’ imported from the Czech Republic. Suspended structures created a ‘virtual oasis’ softening the space and diffusing sunlight during the daytime. The Opening Reception stayed true to the theme – mixing an exciting range of expandable ‘kraft paper’ furniture with a variety of custom made wooden pieces and carefully designed lighting effects.
In its third year, HQWS increased its involvement with the fair and assisted TDIC in producing the event in its new home ‘The UAE Pavilion’ on Saadiyat Island, installing over 2,500 square metre of exhibition space, a bespoke theatre and created a stunning VIP Majlis area with a wooden decked floor, pergolas and 10m high projections.
