LIMA 2019 – 6th PARAPAN AMERICAN GAMES CLOSING CEREMONY

The Parapan American Games Lima 2019 Closing Ceremony was a celebration of the human spirit. Inspiration, determination, courage and equality were the values that defined the Paralympic Movement and the athletes. Through sport, Para athletes celebrated diversity and showed that difference is a strength. As pioneers of inclusion, they challenged stereotypes, transformed attitudes and broke down social barriers and discrimination towards persons with disabilities. As role models, Para athletes maximized their abilities, empowering and encouraging others to be active and participate in sport. Through their performances, Para athletes showcased to the world what can be achieved when pushing your body to the limit. The Ceremony celebrated also the volunteers with a mosaic made of the faces of hundreds of them: a fitting celebration of their invaluable contribution to the Lima 2019 Games.

We hope that you will marvel at a remarkably kaleidoscopic country, which you thought you knew but do not even imagine yet, a country that Peruvians themselves may have forgotten how to appreciate fully.
In this ceremony we present, woven in a great fabric, the past and the present of a country in which nature and culture inter- twine. An immensely sophisticated country from which the Amazon is born, which gives us superfoods and from which the first civilization of the Americas emerged.

The backdrop to the Para Pan Closing Ceremony’s stage is a mosaic made of the faces of hundreds of volunteers: a fitting celebration of their invaluable contribution to the Lima 2019 Games and Ceremonies.
